Day 53: Four hundred kilometres to the BoHo Garden

An older camper couple we met in Sant’Isidoro are from the area and had recommended Ostia Antica to us: you can park up anywhere there, no trouble at all. The comments in Park4Night say otherwise and so we look for something safer. In the same app we find the BoHo Garden, which appeals to us straight away because it clearly does its own thing. It is four hundred kilometres from Sorrento and in the late afternoon we turn in between two rows of trees onto the site.
A garden made from what is left of the wood
The BoHo Garden has a few camper pitches, a few tiny houses and a large area for events of every kind. In it stand the play things for big and small: climbing frame, swing, trampoline, a stack of tyres, tipis and a little wooden house with a yellow door. Wooden signs hang from the trunks with inspiring sayings, “every day is a fresh start” and “be the reason someone smiles today”. The trunks themselves, though, are bare and sawn off. There was once a pine wood here, but the trees were diseased or infested and the owner had to cut them all down and is making the best of it. There is also a barbecue and a fire pit for everyone, which sadly we did not use. In pictures, though, I have seen that they spend some really lovely evenings there, playing music. Lavinia and Valentino play football in the sand until dusk and are covered in dirt from head to toe afterwards 😉
The only travelling family in Italy
Aldo, who takes care of the whole operation, welcomes us when we arrive. He shows us around and points out everything. We hardly see the few other guests, but we do meet one family: a Dutch travelling family with a son in homeschooling, the first we have come across at all, and in Italy the only one. I talk for a long time and very happily with Birgit and we swap notes on how family life on the move actually works. She has incense sticks of white copal that smell wonderful and she keeps coming back to the Waterfall Valley in Portugal. In the evening we also meet Sebastian, who owns the place and is Dutch as well, a very nice guy we talk to for quite a while.
